MealSignal ("the App," "we," "us") is a nutrition insight tool that provides AI-generated, educational information about food based on photos or text you provide.

1. What We Collect

Information you provide directly:

Health condition selections (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, high cholesterol, PCOS, or custom conditions you enter)
Food names you search or type
Photos of meals or food items you choose to scan
Portion-accuracy feedback (smaller / about right / bigger)
Optional energy-level check-ins (if you use PCOS tracking)
Language preference

Information collected automatically:

Basic app usage data (e.g., number of scans, trial status) needed to operate free trial and subscription features
Device/technical information standard to app operation (device type, OS version) — we do not use this for tracking or advertising

We do not collect:

Your name, unless you choose to provide it for account/support purposes
Precise location data
Health data from Apple HealthKit or Google Health Connect

2. How We Use Your Data

Health conditions you select are used only to calculate the nutrient flags and verdicts shown to you (e.g., flagging high sodium if you've selected hypertension). By selecting health conditions in the App, you explicitly consent to the processing of this health information strictly to deliver customized nutritional feedback.

Food photos are processed via our backend integration with Google Gemini API solely to identify food items and estimate nutritional content. We do not sell your data or share your health condition profile with third-party advertisers or data brokers.

3. Third-Party Services

MealSignal utilizes the following third-party services to function:

Google Gemini API: Processes food photos and text to return nutritional estimates. We send only the required data (photo/text and selected health conditions) to generate a response, without attaching identifying user information.
Stripe: Processes subscription payments, payment methods, and active subscription status. Raw credit card numbers are handled directly by Stripe and are not stored on our backend servers.

4. Data Retention

Scan results and condition profiles are retained only as long as your account is active to provide in-app history features. You can request complete deletion of your data at any time. If you delete the App without an account, locally stored data is removed directly from your device.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data, including secure HTTPS communication and restricting direct exposure of API keys on client devices.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location (including under Swiss FADP and EU GDPR where applicable), you have the right to access, correct, delete, or withdraw consent for your processed data at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at joananthony5991@gmail.com.

7. Children's Privacy

MealSignal is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age.
